Welcome 2018 + How to Make the Best of 2018

Hey Dreamers! It’s 2018! It’s a new year, a fresh start. 2017 was a wonderful year. I will never forget all the memories and achievements of 2017. How do years always pass by so fast? I remember this day last year so clearly. And now it’s 2018. Time to make new memories and accomplish more things.

We have 365 days in a year. These should be some of the best days in your life. I wanted to talk to you guys, a little about how to make the best of a new year.

1. Keep learning new things

This could mean anything, it could be as hard as learning a new hobby, or as simple as learning a new word. You can also learn something new about your current hobbies. This year, I want to learn more about photography, and I want to improve my vocabulary.

2. Practice your favorite hobby

Whether that’s playing soccer, drawing or reading. You can always improve. Keep practicing, and practicing some more. I want to improve at writing, art and playing the piano.

3. Reduce the use of devices

Now, I know we’re all bloggers and we need our devices to blog. I’m not saying you have to completely stop using devices. I just think that we need to reduce the amount o time we spend on our devices. Personally, I get very distracted when I’m around devices. And the truth is, My writing, or art comes out much better when I stay away from them.

4. Spend time with your friends and family

The best way, you can make your days amazing is to spend time with the people you care about. I always feel s much better after I spend time with my friends and family.

5. Find something good in every day

My last tip is to be grateful everyday. I saw a quote the other day that said “Every day might not be good but there is something good in every day.” That is so true. If you want to have an amazing year, you have to focus on the good things.

Last year, I had decorated this jar and called it my “Happiness Jar.” Here’s a picture:

Every day, I would take a sticky note and with down something good that happened, something that made me happy. I was not successful in doing this for the whole year, but I did it till about mid-April. After that, I just put in sticky notes once in a while.

Yesterday, I emptied out the jar and read all the sticky notes. They all made me smile. I think this method is very effective. It makes you think about the little things, and it doesn’t take a lot of time. Your ‘good thing’ can be as small as getting a good grade on an assignment or as big as winning something, but there will always be something.

You can make this jar for many different things. You could put in something new you learnt everyday, or something funny that happened.

Thank you for reading this post. Happy New Year, to all of you. I hope 2018 treats you well. I hope you make amazing memories and have great accomplishments.

2017 Reflection

Hey Dreamers! I can’t believe that 2017 is coming to an end. This year has been so amazing! I’ve loved every moment of this year and I’m so excited for what 2018 has in store for me. I wanted to reflect on this year to see what I’ve achieved.

I did a post on my new year’s resolutions this year. And you can go back and read it, but beware! It’s not my best post. But, I wanted to reflect on how I did on my resolutions.

Green= Accomplished

Purple= Kind of accomplished

Red= Not Accomplished

Write in my diary everyday

I actually did pretty well on this, in the first few months. Then we went to India, during summer vacation and I was, so busy that I didn’t have the energy or time to write in it. When we came back, I didn’t feel like writing in it, so I took a long break. Then, one of my favorite teachers started a “Creative Journaling” club. I went to the club with my friends and I started a new journal. I started feeling more comfortable with the new journal. So I don’t write in it everyday, but I do write in it often.

Try writing everyday

I definitely wrote a lot more this year, but I don’t think I wrote everyday.  But, I definitely think I improved at writing.

Improve at music and art

Yes! I think I improved a lot at playing the piano. I learnt a lot more. I also did a lo of art this year. I have this sketchbook that I’ve drawn a lot in, and I can really see how much I’ve improved.

Blog often

I am so proud of myself for this one. I blogged so much more this year, and I enjoyed it so much. The results of blogging often, made me really happy.

Study well

I wasn’t really sure about this one, but I think I studied pretty well.

Try something new

I’m not sure about this one either. I’m sure I did try some new things, but I just can’t remember them right now.

Read a lot

I did read a lot! I’ve read seventy four books (including a few re-reads) and counting.

Have the best year

Definitely one of the best!

Blogging was one of the best parts of this year. Here are some stats:

Christmas Season ~ A Poem

Christmas lights twinkle,

in the small town streets

In the kind of weather,

nothing can beat

Flurries of snow,

Oh, I know!

How, so very nice,

Why can’t this season

come twice?

The season of giving,

This should be the

way of living

With family and friends,

Love that never ends

Hey Dreamers! I hope you liked that poem. Tell me what you think in the comments.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to?

Tell me in the comments! Bye!

NaNoWriMo Update + Snippets

Hey Dreamers! So NaNoWriMo is coming to an end. *sighs* I always enjoy scrambling to get the number of words I need that day finished. Anyways, I decided to do an update post.

Word count goal: 10000

Current word count: 8682

Number of chapters: 13

86% Done!

So here’s the thing: I am 86% done with my word count, but not my story. My story is about 45% done? I don’t really know. I don’t think I’ll finish my story, but I’m kinda okay with it. Is that a bad thing? My goal in NaNo is to get into a daily habit of writing. This story is the longest thing I have ever written and I’m pretty proud of myself. I think my story’s coming together well too. And I just finished writing a really intense argument! How’s your story going?

Here are a few snippets:

This was going to be an interesting trip.

I had no idea what that piece of paper was going to lead me to.

“I believe in you”, she said. Then she turned around and went away. Jia and I looked at each other. Our adventure had just begun.

“I really think it’s this one. I can . . . I can sort of feel it.”

“Okay?”, Eileen asked.

I shook my head. “No.”

“Fine! I will go out there by myself, and I’ll show you that I can take care of myself.”

I was falling. I closed my eyes, I tried to scream, but I couldn’t bring myself to.

“Oh nothing, just that I don’t think pineapples grow in the Redwood Forest and they certainly don’t grow on trees.”

“I’ve forgiven a lot of people for a lot of things. That doesn’t mean I always mean it.”

“So you basically hold grudges?”

“I don’t hold grudges!”

“Yeah I can totally see that.”

“You know what? I can’t handle you right now.”

“You can’t handle ME?! Well, you’re not the one who fell of a who-knows-how-many foot tree and is helping an oversensitive girl cut a pineapple that is not supposed to be here in the first place.”

“You fell of the tree because of your ignorant little mind. If you had just kept your mouth shut, none of this would’ve happened.”

“Well, if you hadn’t been so overcautious, maybe I would have kept my mouth shut.”

“And you’re blaming this on me, so I guess we’re even. And stop screaming.”

“Yeah, totally.”

“Stop being sarcastic!”

“You stop being overdramatic.”

“I am NOT being overdramatic.”

“Yeah, right.”

” I just . . . I can’t handle this right now. We’re in the middle of a forest, cutting a pineapple and arguing over . . .  I don’t even know what we’re arguing about.”

“Then why are we arguing?”

“I don’t know!”

“I don’t know either!”

“You’re the one who started it!”

I really enjoyed writing the last one. If you haven’t already, you should check out Samantha’s snippets, they’re amazing!!!

What did you think of my snippets? How are you doing on your novel?

Tell me in the comments.
